Is talent management the key to surviving the recession? Five participants in a CIPD research project, ‘Fighting Back Through Innovation’, tell Lucie Carrington their views
The rise of the talent management agenda was a product of the boom years, when skills were scarce and jobs plentiful. Now that’s no longer the case, HR could be forgiven for assuming that the language of talent is withering with the profit margins. But ongoing research from the CIPD suggests that many employers believe that effective talent management could help them out of recession – or at least see them through.
According to Claire McCartney, CIPD adviser, resourcing and talent planning, effective talent management is even more important in a recession: “Employers have to know where their key talent is if they are to meet business-critical needs. It’s about ensuring that your business is sustainable.”
